MEPs from the EFA Group in the European Parliament are visiting Israel and Palestine this week as part of a fact finding mission to the region.
The MEPs include Josep-Maria Terricabras (President of the EFA Group), Jill Evans (Vice-President), Ernest Maragall, Jordi Sebastià and Alyn Smith.
They are also joined by Lorena Lopez de Lacalle, Vice President of the EFA European Political Party.
The group will visit Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Hebron and Ramallah. They will meet a range of politicians, NGOs and representatives of civil society, both Israeli and Palestinian.
The visit comes at a crucial time in Israeli/Palestinian relations, with the peace process deadlocked.
The EU is part of the so-called 'quartet' mediating the peace process and is also a major aid donor in the region.
The EFA (European Free Alliance) Group in the European Parliament sits in a joint European parliamentary group with the Greens, making up the sixth largest group in parliament.
The European Free Alliance (EFA) draws together political parties fighting for democracy and self-determination for the stateless nations and regions of Europe. EFA is committed to democratic, constitutional and peaceful means based around the core principles of social justice and equality.
